Youth Action for Peace Deutschland Yap-cfd

... is a nation wide union of people who try to build bridges of understanding and to mitigate misery. The main request of YAP-cfd is, to reduce national and cultural prejudices and animosity among people and to promote mutual tolerance. yap-cfd is acknowledged as an "Non Profit Organisation" by the German Government.

Yap-cfd was born after the First World War (in 1923) in France and Germany, under the name Christian Movement for Peace (CMP, until 1994), in order to work towards peace and reconciliation between countries formerly at war, particularly with the younger generations.
YAP Germany was connected to the network of YAP international which had branches mainly in Europe and associated groups and partner organisations all over the world. In 2009 this movement stopped working, yap-cfd is now part of a network of partner organisations in approximately 80 countries.
The work of the association YAP Germany is above all financed by membership fees, public funding, church and charitable donations. We have our office in Frankfurt with staff working for short-term voluntary service and for mid- and long-term voluntary service. Besides we have a lot of voluntary, unsalaried clerks, ex-volunteers and trainees who make our work possible. The work of yap-cfd is supported by 2 different current working groups (AK Latin America, AK International) which meet regularly at different places. There are also meetings between the members of these working groups and the members of the board twice a year.

What we do
yap-cfd strives to act against prejudices, intolerance and discrimination by helping young people to get to know each other through workcamps and voluntary services.

Short-term voluntary services
Short-term voluntary services are also called workcamps. Workcamps with yap-cfd give young people the chance to meet other people and to learn from each other. In each workcamp, 10 to 20 young people from different countries and cultures and with different religions and living conditions come together. Mostly in summer, they live and work together for two to three weeks in order to support local activities on peace, justice, social action, community development and environmental protection. In most work camps participants get food and lodging for free. Each year, yap-cfd organizes about 15 workcamps all over Germany. Therefore we also provide special seminars for workcamp facilitators. Moreover, yap-cfd places about 130 volunteers in workcamps all over the world (more than 50countries!) each year. Workcamps provide the possibility to experience real solidarity. They fight racism by offering young people the possibility of positive intercultural experiences.
Here you can find the list of countries and partner organisations that hold workcamps.

Mid- and long-term voluntary services
There is an increasing number of young people who are interested in spending three to twelve months in another country as a volunteer.
Yap-cfd works today with partner organisations in Europe, Latin-America, Asia and Africa. Volunteers have the possibility to be part of a social, ecological or cultural project worldwide and to bring in their own ideas. Projects within Europe are EVS-projects supported by the European Union. And we have numerous projects troughout the world with the programme "weltwärts" promoted by the Ministry for economic cooperation and development (BMZ).
But in any part of the world, you may choose some projects that have to be financed by yourself.
yap-cfd organizes preparation and evaluation seminars for the volunteers.
Here you can find the list of countries and partner organisations that offer mid- or long-term voluntary projects.
