Epiphytes Garden is a project aimed at creating a space that protects the flora
and fauna of the region where the inhabitants of the city of San Cristobal de
las Casas, and visitors can learn about the importance of maintain forests, to
separate and recycle waste, and so on. Another aim is to provide a space for the
reproduction of epiphytes such as orchids and bromeliads. The idea is to have
a space rich in flora and fauna that can enjoy and engage people in the city,
which is intended, can multiply the knowledge gained in this botanical garden.
Epiphytes Garden is located on the hill of San Cristobal de las Casas. WORK:
The work will consist in the rehabilitation of a live fence (demarcation made
from native trees of the region), construction of a rainwater-harvesting tank,
a greenhouse for plant production, building a gazebo, cleaning and sorting of
trash. During the camp will hold workshops and/or awareness raising of the people
in the surroundings of the place on the future care of the botanical garden. Other
activities will restore and increase access stairs, improve certain parts of the
future garden. Also be built using land adobes to be used in the infrastructure

of Love" was created in 2005 as a result of cooperation among 4 persons with
disabilities. From that time the group has grown and currently is supported by
10 youth with disabilities. The goal of Association is to provide a space for
social, cultural interaction and recreational activities for disabled youth. They
make an effort to involve young people in the work and activities carried out
by the Association as well as to support them in their emotional development.
The main aim of the Association's work is that at through all their work young
people acquire skills that will provide for them a personal development, enable
work and an give an openness to education and leisure options. What Angels offer
are social, educational, cultural, sport and job training programs that can help
in social integration, enhancement of horizons and life enjoyment by being treated
with respect and affection. WORK: The activities held by volunteers
on this camp are related to agriculture, precisely to preparing vegetable patch
and building a chicken coop. Furthermore the volunteers will be providing cultural
and educational activities with young people with disabilities and will take care
of small remodeling of Association's facilities. ACCOMMODATION:

NAT19 Xochipilli 2 04/06-16/06 ENVIROM/EDU/CONST vol: 10 PROJECT:
The objective at Xochipilli is to develop a self-sustainable space through the
production and consumption of vegetables, the sale of plants, and the creation
of links with related projects. In congruence with sustainable development, the
space aspires to have rainwater collectors, generation of clean energy and recylcing,
as well as appropriate technologies. The objective of the space is the development
of a model of sustainability that can be replicated in different alternative,
rural spaces and contexts; with the aim of achieving sustainable rural development.
WORK: The volunteers will be involved in activities depending on the
needs of the project, such as cultivation, seed sewing, transplanting of plants,
weeding, watering, harvesting, pruning, and polinisation, for example. As well:
development and maintenance of systems of water collection, renewable energy,

vol: 10 PROJECT: Municipal Dog Control Center (CECAM) wants
to create a culture of adoption and love for animals, especially dogs that have
been abused and left on the streets. The Center promotes raising awareness campaigns,
rabies vaccination actions, sterilization of dogs and cats in order to reduce
the number of stray animals in the public places. The main goal of CECAM is to
be a self-sufficient institution, without a permanent need of exterior support.
They want to achieve that through activities that generate stable income, like
a vegetables cultivation, greenhouse, recreation center, family education center.
ACTIVITIES: The CECAM wants to use its resources to make a space for a
family recreation place, where different activities could be realized in order
to help the center to be self-sufficient. During the first workcamp here the volunteers
will clean up the area and the spring, separate a organic and inorganic waste
to flatten and make the area orderly. They will also assist in the preparation

San Jose Educative Park 2 17/06-30/06 ENVIROM / CONST vol: 10 PROJECT:
The Educative Park San José was open to the wide public in 1995 with the
intention to provide a space for recreation and education about biodiversity.
From 2010 it is a part of the Ministry of Environment and Natural History of the
State of Chiapas. Its mission is a protection, preservation and exhibition of
the flora and fauna of the highlands of Chiapas. It's actions are focused on rehabilitation
and expansion of its structure, to transform their spaces into places eco-cultural
with recreational facilities, complementary activities that contribute to the
conservation of natural resources in the region and style sustainable livelihood.
WORK: The work done by volunteers depend on the needs of the park, as the
construction of demonstration areas: water cycle (from planning to the implementation
of the design), a mural, development of environmental education materials, reset
and development of children's games (related to environmental issues), cleaning
and maintenance of the animal cages, cycling and hiking trails. ACCOMMODATION:

/CONST vol: 12 PROJECT: Igloo Kokolo is the environmental
center of dissemination information about development, based on rules of permaculture
and bio-construction. It tries to experiment and spread the idea of co-existence
and equality of ecosystems and their inhabitants. WORK: This workcamp
is going to be one of the most exciting in a whole year, because we will challenge
to construct a tree house as a shelter for the future volunteers. There will also
be a possibility to participate in running maintenance of the place and to help
with vegetable garden designing. ACCOMMODATION: In igloos and tents.
LOCATION: The Center covers an area of 160 hectares of virgin land, in
close surroundings of the biggest natural lake in Mexico "Chapala".

is found in a colony on the edge of San Cristobal de Las Casas and gives an opportunity
to live with nature, among gardens, trees and vegetables ridges. Also organize
different types of workshops for all who want develop him/herself and get such
a ability like furniture making, leather bags preparing, using natural herbs in
everyday life, metal things making, using sewing machine and much more. PROJECT:
During the summer the center La Albarrada offers to children a month of play,
recreation and education. Volunteers support a staff of the center in the preparation
and conduction of these activities in which raises the possibility for volunteers
to participate and leed workshops on topics such as environment, water care, paper
crafts, piñata making, nutrition and child health, development of kites,
how to make a camp and others. They may also propose other activities that meet
the program objectives. An overall Center's goal is to work on educational and
recreational activities that allow children to have a education through a recreation,
taking into account mostly values such as protection of the environment and the

Cine con Sentido 2 09/07-21/07 CULT/CINE/ANIM/KIDS vol: 12 PROJECT:
Nataté Voluntariado Internacional A.C organized the camp, which is called
CINE CON SENTIDO (MOVIES WITH MEANING), which will focus on films and/or documentaries
and workshops in different venues, with the aim of exchanging experiences through
leisure activities and recreation as recycling workshops, drama, painting of murals,
etc.., which will be aimed at different groups of the population with the thematic
of the protection of the environment. The projection sites will be done in 2 municipalities
in Chiapas: San Cristobal de las Casas, and Venustiano Carranza. WORK:
During the first week, volunteers will participate in the preparation of recreation
and leisure activities to be held in each site, volunteers are expected to attend
screenings during the two weeks which will be held in two nearby communities,
in order to have a reference to discuss and reflect on the theme of the projections,
the care of the technical equipment, etc. The proposal is to carry out recycling
activities, prepare a performance play, have a brainstorm for a mural which will
be made and all these activities will be carried out with different sectors of
the population (children, youth and/or adults). Volunteers will be involved from
the preparation of the workshops to the implementation of the presentations, so
volunteers are expected to have interest and motivation. By the nature of the
event, volunteers will prepare the space for the projections and will be responsible
for cleaning up the sites. The work will be hard during the two weeks of camp
but it will be a very enriching. Volunteers should bring proposals for activities
to do around the theme of the camp which if the protection of the environment.

up NAT26 Copainala 1 08/07-21/07 HERIT/SOC/CULT/KIDS
vol: 12 PROJECT: Eight churches were built in the sixteenth
century under the leadership of the Dominican friars whose goal was to evangelize
the Zoque people - with their culture that was herited from the one of the oldest
cultures of Mesoamerica. The former convent of San Miguel Archangel in the municipality
of Copainalá reflects this history. The building was originally in the
European style but soon it got local characteristics of Mexican colonial art.
The presence of these churches was a big contribution to the development of a
school of painted golden sculpture. The former convent of St. Michael the Archangel
is one of the main points where all the efforts are gathered to regain the use
of the language of Zoque. WORK: Volunteers will participate in organizing
with the Copainalá population raising awareness workshops about an importance
of the world heritage as well as environmental issues. There will be put a strong
accent to try to sensibilize a local community to problems with waste managements,
river resources preserving etc. They will also make some cleaning works, as well
as basic renewals and windows and doors waxing. The volunteers are expected to
bring their proposals for activities which can be realized during the workshops
with locals (children and / or youth). The camp aims to create a sense of belonging
and develop the tourism potential of Copainala. There will be opportunity for
cultural activities to be organized together with the local population, with the
aim to discover the local traditions, rediscover cultural sites and natural heritage.

1 14/07-29/07 HERIT/SOC/CULT/ KIDS vol: 12 PROJECT: Between
1535 and 1540 the Augustinians built the Convent of San Juan Bautista and from
there attended the populations of the place becoming a major center for evangelism.
In the convent itself we can admire such elements like a monumental atrium, chapels,
open chapel, monumental temple and convent's garden. The building also served
as a barracks during the Mexican War of Independence and the Revolution. Currently
a group of people from the town, members of the Cultural Center Talent and Life
Organization together with the pastor are interested in the promotion and preservation
of this site which was listed as World Heritage Site of Humanity by UNESCO in
1994. WORK: The volunteers will continue with the preservation works
of the ex-convent, so they will carry out works of renovation and restoration
in various areas, especially the cleaning of the quarry. Their work in the emerging
areas will be supervised by a professional conservationist. The volunteers will
participate as well in a raising awareness about world heritage and it's preservation
campaign aimed at local people. They will be working together with the Cultural
Center Talent and Life AC, organizing workshops and conferences for the local
population, authorities and tourists on the importance of cultural heritage preserving.
Volunteers are expected to bring some proposals and ideas of games and activities,
which can be developed either with children or youth and can help them to understand

The cooperative Cotzaselch has organized various international work camps in 2011
with interesting experiences rich in exchange. The cooperation Cotzaselch is a
sustainable project serving the community of Tzajalá. With its traditional
jewellery workshops, its agroecological experimental farm (horticulture, composting,
coffee, medicinal plants, etc), the cooperative manages sustainable development
projects in complete harmony with nature. Volunteers will work in agriculture
- for example, preparation of the land and construction work; and they will reconstruct
various cabins in the community Ha O Mek Ka. They will have the opportunity to
do diverse manual labour related to horticulture, composting, and lombriculture,
amongst other things. Time permitting; it is possible to get involved in
other works in the community. Presentations in the local schools will be organized
by the volunteers. WORK: The activities are directed towards continuing
the construction of a pathway that will serve as an access route to the projects
of Ha O Mek Ka; and the creation of raised beds for the sewing of vegetables.
Volunteers will be involved in activities of renovation and construction of cabins
for the volunteers. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn different workshops
about the making of soap, crafts, and cooking. ACCOMMODATION: In

10 PROJECT: The cooperative Cotzaselch has organized various
international work camps in 2011 with interesting experiences rich in exchange.
The cooperation Cotzaselch is a sustainable project serving the community of Tzajalá.
With its traditional jewellery workshops, its agroecological experimental farm
(horticulture, composting, coffee, medicinal plants, etc), the cooperative manages
sustainable development projects in complete harmony with nature. Volunteers will
work in agriculture - for example, preparation of the land and construction work;
and they will reconstruct various cabins in the community Ha O Mek Ka. They will
have the opportunity to do diverse manual labour related to horticulture, composting,
and lombriculture, amongst other things. Time permitting; it is possible to get
involved in other works in the community. Presentations in the local schools will
be organized by the volunteers. WORK: The activities are directed
towards continuing the construction of a pathway that will serve as an access
route to the projects of Ha O Mek Ka; and the creation of raised beds for the
sewing of vegetables. Volunteers will be involved in activities of renovation
and construction of cabins for the volunteers. Volunteers will have the opportunity
to learn different workshops about the making of soap, crafts, and cooking.

15/07-28/07 CONST/ ENVI vol: 12 PROJECT: The Community Foundation
of Morelos organizes a two years project entitled "La Casita del Agua"
(The Water House). This young but strong, local organization has a plan to give
an access for local families to "public laundry" by building 20 special
water-installations. The aim is to take advantage of eco-techniques by using rainwater
and waste water, install solar water heating, renew old public laundry and at
finally - construct "La Casita del Agua". This project is focused on
domestic level to promote community organization through the construction and
operation of a common space, to encourage and promote alternative technologies
for heating and purification water, and improve the environmental, hygiene and
health of the town. WORK: Volunteers will work to construct a community
building. Particularly they will focus on refurbishing, renewing and improving
the washing area of the town of Santo Domingo Ocotitlán. These works include
among others enhancement of sinks and surrounding areas and the construction of
the Casita del Agua. Volunteers will have the opportunity to take part in cultural,
recreational and leisure activities with local children,youth and adults.

of urban-Permaculture, the aim is strengthens the interchanges and learnings of
ecological techniques of constructions and carpentry. The objective of the center
is become a self-sufficient center, with a positive impact in the environment,
the relationships and the lifestyles. WORK: During the workcamp, the
volunteers will have the opportunity to learn and practice different technologies
of Bio Construction, using recycled materials, of low costs of local access. The
activities of the workcamp will continue with the works that daily are realized
in the project the construction of cabins, dry baths, biodigester, vegetables,
solar heater and the construction of demonstrative domes. The volunteers will
have the opportunity to visit other Permaculture's projects in the city. ACCOMMODATION:

is an educative and demonstrative center, which promote the sustainable development
and the solidarity, through intercultural projects with youngers from different
countries, solidary projects that contributes the local community development
and agro-ecological projects. Tsomanotik allows participants to see the different
realities leading to reflection and motivation to take solidary local and global
actions. The vision of this association is to awaken a solidary consciousness
in the youth, so that from be-ing aware of the causes of injustice and poverty,
they could act for a more fair and solidary world, and accompany marginalized
groups from Chiapas on their development process. The center does not produce
contamined water, because we have ecologic bath the waste produce composts, we
have 2 treatments of gray water, 2 cisterns for water of rains. In the agro-ecological
area there is an organic garden, cunigallinero (it is a place where rabbits and
chickens habit), 3 areas for composts, 6 boxes of bees, we produce mushrooms and
area of milpa (corn plant) WORK: The first week, the volunteers will
have training about the sustainable development and community life through of
workshops, cine-club and other activities. They will visit 3 important places:
2 trapiches (mills used for the extraction of juice of the cane, where the sugar
is done) in this places you will be able to observe the process of cultivate of
it and the production of honey in "panela" (sugar not refined); you
will visit the Montebello's Lakes, where you will have the opportunity to know
the process of the cultive of organic coffee and visit the Waterfall of Chiflon.
During the second week, the volunteers will be involved in agro-ecological activities
as the work in the organic garden, ecological compost, lombricomposta, cunigallinero
and the milpa. We hope that the volunteers have enthusiasm and motivation for

PROJECT:
The Community is made up of people from the Ricardo Flores Magon neighborhood.
This community called Guadalupe Santa Cruz, is a group of men, women, children
and youngters. Within the community they organized workshops related to human
rights and concretized in a group of women, speaking about the social, economic
and cultural difficulties suffered by women, the objectives of this work is that
women get the importance of their rol inte society and in the family. Other activities
carried out by the Community are to visit the four neighborhoods that make up
the district, so we can share experiences and biblical testimonies and create
a close relationship among the villagers. As well there are activities with children
and youth, which offer group dynamics, workshops about recycling, ecology, games,
film and spiritual guidance. WORK: The proposal is to strengthen support
for young people and children, in the process of understanding the world. The
workcamp has the objective to contribute the cultural and social exchange between
the youngers of the workcamp and the community. The volunteers will organize the
workshops about the reciclyng and enviroment, with the objective to awareness
about the local reality and make the proposal. As well take care of the maintenance
of the the temple and contribute to cultural events organized by the community.
ACCOMMODATION: The sleeping room will be located on the premises of the
Temple. LOCATION: Santa Cruz Guadalupe Community is located in the
neighborhood Ricardo Flores Magon, and belongs to the municipality of Venustiano
Carranza, Chiapas, Mexico. It is an hour and a half from the capital of Chiapas,
