UV.298 07.05.- 26.05.2012 Maungani (ZANZIBAR) CULT/HERI No more males!
"Cultural exposure"
Short description:
- Taking Swahili classes
- Taking drumming & Dancing classes
- Assisting teaching and organize sport and games to the kids (3-6 years)
- Visiting Local market, handcraft village, Village meseum etc.
On free time; historical sites, Mikumi National Park, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam beaches

UV.300 21.05. - 09.06.2012 Central (ZANZIBAR) RENO/ENVI/CULT
Environment & Education
Work: During the project, volunteers will participate in the following activities:Painting the secondary school building, establishment and maintenance of a tree nursery at the school, teaching basic environmental facts, learning Swahili language. Volunteers will work 6-7 hours a day, from Monday to Friday. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays will be free to plan any activities they wish.
Accommodation: We provide accommodation for volunteers who arrive in the country before the start of the project and for those who stay a bit longer as they are waiting for their return flights. In case you require this service, you should inform us at least ten days before the start of the project so that we can make the necessary arrangements at our end.Volunteers will be accommodated in the local residential area, and some of them in the nursery school classrooms, depending on the availability of rooms. Water and electricity will be available.
Excursions: During the weekends, the volunteers will have the opportunity to visit various attractions in Zanzibar. This can be done individually or we could also organize a group visit. Some possible activities are: Safari blue (swimming, snorkeling, eating seafood, playing at sand banks), Beach & Nature trip (visiting Jozani Forest, Spice tour, swimming with dolphins). We will have more options on arrival… please bring your ideas as well!

UV.302 28.05. - 21.07.2012 Mikindani (MTWARA) TEACH/CULT
Pre-primary & Primary Education
Work: Volunteers are expected to participate in general activities in the school. Specifically, they will collaborate in the following duties:
-Helping students who are struggling with English (slow learners)
-Assisting in teaching English, Mathematics and any other subjects they feel comfortable with.
-Assisting staff in organizing fun and learning activities for the students
-Sharing skills and experience with the local teachers
Accommodation: We provide accommodation for volunteers who arrive in the country before the start of the project and for those who stay a bit longer as they are waiting for their return flights. In case you require this service, you should inform us at least ten days before the start of the project so that we can make the necessary arrangements at our end. Volunteers will be living with host families in the local community. Most of the families will be those of the teachers from the school and they will be able to speak English and support you in learning and experiencing the culture
Excursions: Volunteers will have free time to enjoy the landscape, nature, culture and historical attractions on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the third week. Some possible activities are: A safari to Selous National Park; A tour of Old Mikindani town; Swimming at Mnazi Bay beach

 

 UV.304 04.06. - 23.06.2012 Maungani (ZANZIBAR) CULT/HERI
Cultural Exposure
Work: Participate in various classes and activities based on handcraft (Baskets and mats weaving),hair plaiting and henna painting, cooking Tanzania dishes, Tie –dye & Batik painting and Swahili classes. Khanga (Coastal dress) workshop will add the flavor of the Project menu.
Study: Cultural heritage for sustainable development
Accommodation: Local residential house in the community
Excursios: Beach and Nature trip (Jozani forest, spice tour, swimming with dolphins etc); Safari Blue (Swimming, Snorkeling, sea food lunch, sports at sand bank etc)

Sustainability of Vulnerable kids
Work: Building an animal sheds to be used to produce and distribute Chickens, Pigs and diary goat as income generation for orphans, vulnerable kids and single parents/widows/ grandmothers. Other activities will include visiting children at home; organize sports and games on their free time.
Study: Sustainability of vulnerable kids.

Excursions: Week end safari to Lake Manyara/Tarangire and Ngorongoro crater.

Program fee and related cost

Specific costs to be known are:
-Workcamp: from 200,- to 550,-Euro according to the duration of the workcamp. See table below: This fee is including orientation day.

Additional costStudy:
- Transport from UVIKIUTA center to the Project community: price will be provided in the information sheet, depending on the distance
- Pick up from airport: (Optional Airport service on arrival & departure. Upon request, we provide a pick-up / drop-off service for our volunteers. In case you require this service, you should inform us at least ten days before the start of the project so that we can make the necessary arrangements. This service is available on payment of a small fee of 20€.
- Bed and breakfast at UVIKIUTA center- US$20 (Optional)

The fees indicated above do not cover:
- The cost of the visa, or any other expenses related to immigration or any official procedures.
- Any medical expenses
- Free-time activities
- Food and accommodation before/after the project or outside the designatd place for the project.

How to get to the projects?
Volunteers will be picked at Luther house l located along Sokoine drive Dar es Salaam, next to Azania Front Lutheran Cathedral on the first day of the Workcamp at 14:00hrs.
