General information: The workcamp fee is Euro 250.
The fee covers:
- pick up in the airport/bus station upon arrival in Uganda, - introduction at the UPA guesthouse
- local transport to and from the work camp
- food and accommodation during the work camp.

UPA/003/12 Date: 4 - 24/06/12 Nansana Town Council, Wakiso District CONS vol: 15

Location: Ocheng Village, Nansana Town council is 12kilometers North-West of Kampala the capital of Uganda, in Wakiso District in central region of Uganda.
Activities: Mixing sand and cement, collecting mortar and water, plastering, brick laying. Participants will work 6 hours daily from Monday to Friday. Weekends are for social interaction and/ or excursions unless if the official camp programme has an activity.
Free time: There will be a group visit to Wamala tombs a cultural heritage site for burial of some Buganda Kings. Note: There is also the possibility of visiting the Uganda Museum, Entebbe Wild life Education Centre and Botanical beach gardens all found in a radius of not more than 40 kilometres from the camp site but at the cost of interested volunteers.
A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions.
Accommodation: will be in the UPA hall at the office. Average but not luxury. The camp site has simple bathrooms with no showers, the camp site has latrines not toilets and a simple cooking shelter (kitchen).
What to bring: Participants shall be required to bring own sleeping bag, Mat, pillow, Mosquito Net, sun/mosquito creams/repellents, working gloves and boots/shoes. UPA/004/12 Date: 2 -22/ 07/12 Kikooba, Kiboga District MED/CONS vol: 15

Location: The project is situated in Kikooba village, 2km from Kituuma town at 74 km on Kampala - Hoima road North west of Kampala City. The project is located in Kiboga District boarded by Nakaseke District in the northeast, Masindi in the northwest, Hoima in the west, Mubende district in the south and Kibale district in the south west.
Activities: Brick laying, mixing sand and cement, collecting bricks, mortar and water. Roofing & plastering
Free time: Climbing Kikooba hill will also be an interesting activity. A local market is also on Tuesday at Bukomero every two weeks.
A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions.
Accommodation: The project will provide simple rooms in school classrooms or the health centre building. Average but not luxury. The camp site has simple bathrooms with no showers. The camp site has latrines not toilets and a simple cooking shelter (kitchen)

UPA/005/12 Date: 2 - 22/07/ 12 Pakwach, Nebbi District REN/CONS vol: 15

Location: The work camp will take place at UPA Pakwach branch, "ABONGO WOMEN'S GROUP PREMISES, Kamana Zone B". Pakwach Town Council is in Nebbi District, West Nile region. Pakwach branch is located 420 km (6-7hrs) drive from Kampala. It is on the banks on river Nile just 1 Km on Kampala - Arua road.
Activities: Brick laying, collecting and mixing sand, painting and other mansionary renovation work
Free time: Visit historical sites i.e Wanglei Puvumgu and Emin Pasha's Tomb (WADELAI),
visit landing site villages on shores of River Nile. NOTE: There are other available opportunities to visit tourist places like Muchsion falls and the National Park, Hot and cool Amor pii (Panyimur), Nyangak falls, Aguu Hill all in PAIDHA). Lendu forests (Zeu Sub County) for those who can pay for them selves.
A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions.
Accommodation: The Accommodation shall be provided within Abongo Women's' Group premises. Participants shall be required to carry along own working cloth, boots, sleeping mats, bags and mosquito nets.The camp site have simple bathrooms with no showers. The camp sites have latrines not toilets and a simple cooking shelter (kitchen).
Participants will divide themselves in Groups to prepare own meals using charcoal and firewood. There is a variety of local foods to choose from.

Location: It is 3-4 hours drive from Kampala. Gulu is located 333km in the northern part of the country,
Activities: Seminar on culture & peace building, culture & security, culture & economic development, Culture and environment, Culture and health, Cultural as economic capital.
" Orientation Visit at the Acholi paramount chief's palace
" Offering voluntary work at Ker Kal Kwaro Cultural Centre
" Construction of Gulu office, brick laying
" A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home cultures.
Wang oo Bony fire with elders giving key note address on host community culture.
Free time: Former internally displaced people's camps and resettlement sites. Visiting fort Baker and former slave trade route and collection centres. Participate in cultural events. A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions. Visiting various recreation centre and places of interest in and around Gulu.
Note:There are possibilities for visiting other places like Kabalega Hide out during the British invasion in the late 18th century but at the volunteers cost.

UPA/007/12 Date: 24/07 - 14/08/12 UPA Arua, Arua District MED vol: 15

Location: Located in North West Uganda (West Nile Region) Arua District is bordered by Southern Sudan, Maracha District in the North, Nebbi District in the South, Amuru District in the East and Democratic Republic of Congo in the West. The work camp site will be at the branch office. Sessions to the public will be conducted in schools, churches, and Community collection points in Driwala Parish 3km from Work Camp Site.
Activities:
" Radio talk shows about low male involvement in PMTCT, MCH and antenatal service uptake
" Conduct community dialogues to mobilize, sensitize and build confidence in males to be involved right from parish level.
" Hold sub-county stakeholders meetings to engage them into male involvement responses at sub-county level
" Hold district stakeholders information sharing Platform to formulate policies implement and monitoring.
" Conduct open debates on ending domestic violence where every man thinks it is women who bring HIV in homes.
" Print IEC materials for easy information dissemination and community easy understanding of the message in English and local language.
" Support to health centres (Youth Health Information Centre) to rollout the service.
" Voluntary counselling and testing sessions for pupils of Orphans nursery and Primary School and the caregivers.
" Testimony by 3 pregnant positive mothers and provide (3) mama kits, 3 men (1 who goes and 2 who do not go for PMTCT service uptake) and provide (3) basins for bathing.
" Home visits
Free time: Visit pregnant Mothers at Maternity ward -Arua Hospital Note: There possibilities to visit Mt. Wati the highest in West Nile and the National Game Park , but at the cost of interested individuals. A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be at UPA Arua Branch camp site. Participants will be required to carry a long their own sleeping bags and mats. The camp site has temporary local bath room with no showers. The camp site has latrines no toilets and simple cooking shelter.
What to bring: Bring sleeping bag, mats, pillows, mosquito net, sun mosquito cream/repellents, working gloves boots/shoes are advisable. Light working clothes during working hours and warm log sleeved clothes at night as it may turn out to be chilly or cold. Musical instrument, torch or flash light. Water purifiers. UPA/009/12 Date: 10/09 - 01/10/12 UPA Apac, Apac District CONS vol: 15

Location: The work camp will take place at Atana Primary School in Barowelo cell, Atana parish, Apac Sub county - Apac District at 41/2km on Apac - Lira road. Apac district is located in Northern Uganda across the Nile. Apac town is about 4 hours drive from Kampala.
The area is rich with fresh air, abundant sunshine, evergreen vegetation. It is accessible by phone, and by main road. The neighbouring villagers are very friendly.
Activities: Holding workshop on peace building.Making visit to communities affected by conflicts.
Conducting advocacy meeting on peace building involving community leaders like clan and local authorities. Performing drama shows and role-plays on peace building, making field visits to farming communities and organisation, construction of the Farmers and youth centre. E.g. Roofing, levelling, finish etc.
Free time: Visit to primary and secondary schools, war affected area agricultural processing plant, commercialised tree nursery bed, working partner and groups.
A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions.
Accommodation: Accommodation provision shall be in classrooms at Atana Primary School the site. Volunteers will divide themselves in groups to prepare own meals in turn using charcoal and firewood. The participants shall decide upon menu depending on availability.

Location: The work camp shall take place in Nangulia village, Okavu parish Odupi sub-county, Terego County, Arua District. UPA Terego Branch office is 396 miles away from Kampala the capital city of Uganda and 36 miles on Arua - Yumbe/Moyo Road (Odupi Sub - county-Terego county)
Activities PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT Activities: Home visits to HIV/AIDS affected families. Interaction with HIV/AIDS orphans through sports, games and theatre. Draw and painting of pictures, singing and dancing with children.CONSTRUCTION WORK: Digging class room foundation, mixing sand aggregates and cement. Collecting bricks, motor and water. Gardening Activities
Free time: Visting a place of an American letters is found by a man called Elia a resident of Imvepi parish, Odupi sub-county (Terego)
" Climbing mountains Wati and to see the graves of Teregian grand father and mother by names Banyale and Ofunyaru.
" River Nile and waterfalls visits (Rhino camp and Yikuru).
" Visiting Ajai Game Reserve (Madi County)
" Visiting HIV/AIDS affected families.
" Community health centers where the HIV/AIDS patients are admitted in seven sub-counties.

Location: Ocheng Village, Nansana Town council is 12kilometers North-West of Kampala the capital of Uganda, in Wakiso District in central region of Uganda.
Activities: Slashing, digging, cleaning the heritage site. Constructing/digging garbage bins. Planting fruit and compound (decoration) trees. Plastering the wall fence. Mixing sand and cement. Collecting bricks, mortar and water. Re-roofing the tombs with temporary canvas and tapoline
Free time: Working on this site is a direct opportunity to sees and learn about the history of the site.
Note: There is also the possibility of visiting the Uganda Museum, Entebbe Wild life Centre and Botanical beach gardens all found in a radius of not more than 40 kilometres from the camp site but at the cost of interested volunteers.

UPA/012/12 Date: 05 - 25/11/12 Kakunyu, Bukomero, Kiboga District ENV vol: 15

Location: Kakunyu village, Bukomero sub county in Kiboga District. Kiboga District is located in the central part of Uganda boarded by Luweero District in the northeast, Masindi in the northwest, Mubende district in the south and Kibale district in the southwest. Kakunyu lies 85km on Kampala-Hoima road.
Activities: Environment Conservation: Planting 1 acre of different species of trees. Preparation of 2 tree nursery beds, tree potting, raising of tree Nursery shades
Agriculture:Making composite manure pits, carrying organic manure to plants/gardens, planting food crops and vegetables in the trees, weeding
Free time: Visit Katera historical stones, climb Katera Hill. Bukomero local market twice a month on Tuesdays is also an experience.
Note: Cultural Nights will be organised on different days for the different countries represented at the work camp. Please carry along anything that can introduce your culture.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in the facility of UPA Youth Centre on the project. Participants will be required to carry own sleeping bags and mats. Location: The work camp shall take place in Galuwero Zone L.C1 Village, Luwero Town Council, Luwero District. The Project site is located 2km on Ngoma rd, from Luwero, 60km North of Kampala on Kampala - Gulu Road. Luwero District Is located in the central part of Uganda boarded by Wakiso District in the south, Nakasongola in the north, Nakaseke in the North-west
Activities:
Craftsmanship Activities: Making products from paper beads, pottery, handcraft, painting
Psychosocial support Activities: Sports and Games, drawing of pictures, singing and dancing with children. One-day Fundraising Exhibition and a competitive sports gala
Life skills training: Debates, open discussions, drama and Forum theatre
Free time: Visit Luwero Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre, home visits to HIV/AIDS affected families, visits to health centre. A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions.

Location: Muyonjo Senoir school is located only 1km off Hoima road, in Wakiso Sub county, Wakiso District. It is a 45 minutes drive on Kampala - Hoima road.
Activities: Fitting the hall with doors and windows, plastering and flooring the hall at Muyonjo.Mixing concrete, sand, cement and building.
Free time: Visit wamala cultural heritage site, climb kabulengwa hill. Wakiso, kasubi and nansana local market twice a month each every Wednesday, Sunday, and Friday respectively.
NB: Cultural nights will be organized on different days for the different countries represented at the work camp. Please carry along anything that can introduce your culture.

UPA/015/13 Date: 07 - 27/01/13 Kagoma village, Kibiito town, Kyenjojo District MED/CONS vol: 15

Location: The project is situated in Kagoma village, 2km from Kibiito town, 322km from Kampala, West of Kampala city. The project is located in Kabarole District boarded by Kyenjojo District in the north, Kasese district in the south and Bundibugyo district in the south.
Activities: Brick laying, mixing sand and cement, collecting bricks, mortar and water.
Free time: A local market is also on Thursday at Kibiito every week. For those who can afford, climbing Mt Rwenzori will also be an interesting activity, visiting the water springs, and queen Elizabeth national game park at own cost.
Accommodation: The project will provide simple rooms in school classrooms or the health centre building. Average but not luxury. The camp site have simple bathrooms with no showers. The camp sites have latrines not toilets and a simple cooking shelter (kitchen). Participants will chose food to prepare depending on the availability. Location: Branches of Life International is located in Kampala district. The project is situated in Lubaga division, Lubya parish, Lubya local council II.
Activities: Domestic work like cooking, fetching water, etc. Games, sports, music, dance and drama. Construction of a children's home.
Free time: There will be a group visit to Wamala tombs a cultural heritage site for burial of some Buganda Kingdom. Note: There is also the possibility of visiting the Uganda Museum, Entebbe Wild life Centre and Botanical beach gardens all found in a radius of not more than 40 kilometres from the camp site but at the cost of interested volunteers.
A cultural night will be organised and participants will display items, songs and dances from their home countries and traditions.
Accommodation: The project will provide simple rooms with closed doors and windows. Average but not luxury. The camp site has simple bathrooms with no showers. The camp sites has latrines not toilets and a simple cooking shelter (kitchen). Participants will decide the menu according to availability. Participants will divide themselves in Groups to prepare own meals using charcoal and firewood.Volunteers will prepare their own meals using charcoal and firewood. There is a variety of local foods to choose from.
What to bring: Participants shall be required to bring own sleeping bag, Mat, pillow, Mosquito Net, sun/mosquito creams/repellents, working gloves and boots/shoes.
